What is Schoology?

Schoology is an online learning, course management, and secure social networking platform that improves learning through better communication, collaboration, and increased access to curriculum and supplemental content. It will serve as a means for families to collaborate with Subject Matter Experts, Course Programs, or their Educational Specialist.  To receive your log information contact your educational specialist.

Logging in

As a parent you will log into your students’ account. To do this go to the Schoology website

Log in to Schoology.  Enter the following information

  1. Username - provided by Educational Specialist

  2. Password - provided by Educational Specialist

  3. School name (if prompted)

Families may use their Instructional Funds to purchase technology which supports student learning. Because of the wide variety of options available, the school does not provide tech support for student technology. If there is a technical problem and the product is out of warranty, Instructional Funds may be used for repairs made by one of the school’s computer service vendors. For damage done beyond normal wear and tear, the family must pay to fix or replace the technology.

Additional hardware may only be purchased for school owned computers and may not be used for personally owned pieces of technology.

Ownership - All technological items ordered by this charter school remain the property of this charter school and are loaned for enrolled students usage only.

Warranties - An extended warranty (Apple and GovConnect computers) or replacement plan (Office Depot) must be included on every computer or tablet purchase order request.

eWaste - Technology devices with a screen require an eWaste fee. If ordering a devices through GovConnect or Apple, this fee must be included as a separate line item on the purchase order request.  Office Depot covers this fee in their product cost.  A line item eWaste fee does not need to be included on technology ordered through Office Depot.

eWaste fees are:

      • Five dollars ($5) for each electronic device with a screen size less than 15 inches.
      • Six dollars ($6) for each electronic device with a screen size equal to or greater than 15”.

Anti-Virus Requirement - all IEM owned computers must have anti-virus protection.  Here is a listing of free and paid versions anti-virus applications.Also, be sure to check with your ISP as some may offer free antivirus (e.g., AT&T U-verse / MacAfee, Comcast / Norton).  IF funds may be used to purchase anti-virus software but free versions are also adequate in providing protection.

Productivity software - computers do not come with WORD or OFFICE unless the web description says it does. You may order it separately.

  • Apple Computers (Maximum amount excluding warranties/fee/taxes, etc. $1200 for desktops and $2000 for laptops)

    • Please contact ES for list of items available through Apple Education

    • AppleCare warranty required for all computer purchases

    • Must add additional line to each order with a monitor for: Environmental fee 

  • PC Desktops (Maximum amount excluding warranties/fees/taxes etc. $900)

    • Multi-Year vendor warranty (if not included, you need to purchase)

    • Monitor, keyboard, mouse must be purchased separately

    • Windows 10 Home or Professional - Be sure to read the desired computer’s OS notes to see which operating system comes pre-installed. 

  • PC Laptops (Maximum amount excluding warranties/fees/taxes etc. $900)

    • Intel Processor i5 or i7.  No AMD processors

    • Additional Multi-year warranty purchase required.  

    • Must add an additional line to each order with a monitor (laptops have built-in monitors) for: Environmental eWaste fee

    • Windows 10 Home or Professional - Be sure to read the  desired computer’s OS notes to see which operating system comes pre-installed.

  • Chromebooks (Maximum amount excluding warranties/fees/taxes etc. $500)

    • Multi-year warranty required

    • Must add an additional line to each order with a monitor (chromebooks have built-in monitors) for: Environmental eWaste fee

    • May not work with some desktop sharing services, virtual web conferencing program, or some software applications.  Please check the system requirements of applications intended to be used on device before purchasing.

  • Tablet/iPad (Maximum amount $800)

    • Please contact ES for list of items available through Apple Education

    • Environmental eWaste fee

    • Protective case required

    • Warranty/AppleCare required

  • Kindle eReaders (Maximum amount $150)

    • Environmental eWaste fee
